Our Support Services

We offer support for
life’s harder moments.

Grief and loss support

There’s room for all kinds of grief at The Real Room.

Grief isn’t only something we experience after death.
It can come from many kinds of loss — some visible, some quietly carried.

At The Real Room, there is space for all of it.
You don’t have to compare your experience or question whether it “counts.”

Here are some of the ways grief may show up

Bereavement / Loss of Someone

The death of someone close to you can bring deep and complex grief. There’s no right way to navigate it — and no timeline for how it should look. This space offers support as you process, remember, and find your own way forward.

Relationship Grief

Not all grief comes from death. The end or change of a relationship — whether through separation, distance, or disconnection — can carry its own kind of loss. This is a space to explore those feelings without judgement.

Identity Grief

Sometimes we grieve parts of who we were. Changes in roles, careers, relationships, or life direction can leave you feeling uncertain or disconnected from yourself. Together, we make sense of what’s shifting and support you in reconnecting with who you are now.

Life Transition Grief

Even expected or positive changes can bring grief. Moving, becoming a parent, changes in work, or life circumstances can come with a sense of loss alongside growth. You don’t have to navigate those mixed emotions alone.

Health-related Grief

Changes in health — your own or someone else’s — can impact life in ways that are hard to put into words. There can be loss of normality, independence, or future plans. This space allows room for all of that.

Anticipatory Grief

Grief doesn’t only come after loss — it can begin before. When you’re facing the possibility of losing someone or something important, the weight of what’s to come can feel overwhelming. Support can help you hold this uncertainty with care.

General counselling

Support is for everyone,
issues big and small.

Support isn’t just for the big moments.
It’s for the everyday challenges too — the things that build up over time or feel hard to carry on your own.

You’re welcome to bring whatever is on your mind.

Anxiety and Depression

Feeling overwhelmed, low, or stuck can affect many areas of life. Support can help you understand what’s going on and find ways to move forward.

Stress

Life can feel full and demanding at times. This is a space to slow things down, regain balance, and feel more in control.

Anger & Emotional Regulation

Anger is a natural emotion, but it can feel difficult to manage at times. Together, we explore what’s underneath it and find healthier ways to respond.

Trauma Support

Past experiences can continue to impact how you feel, think, and respond in the present. Support can help you process these safely and at your own pace.

Couples counselling

Relationships can feel hard at times — especially when communication breaks down or the same patterns keep showing up. Couples counselling offers a space to slow things down, feel heard, and understand each other more clearly. Together, we explore what’s happening beneath the surface and work towards rebuilding connection in a way that feels supportive and respectful for both of you.

Relationship Issues

Relationships can be complex — whether with partners, family, or others. This space helps you explore patterns, communication, and what you need.

Family and Parenting

Family dynamics and parenting can bring both joy and challenge. Support can help you navigate this with more confidence and clarity.

Intentionally online

On the days you can’t go out, you can still reach out.

Sometimes it’s easier to open up when you’re in your own space.
Online counselling allows you to feel more at ease, more grounded, and more yourself.

From there, meaningful work can begin.

01 Reach Out

Taking the first step can feel like the hardest part.
You’re welcome to get in touch in whatever way feels easiest — whether that’s a message or booking a session.

There’s no pressure, just a gentle starting point.

02 Initial Consultation

Our first session is a chance to get to know each other.
We’ll talk about what’s been going on for you, what you’re needing, and what feels important to focus on.

You don’t need to have it all figured out — we take it at your pace.

03 Regular Online Support

From there, we continue working together in a way that supports you.
Sessions offer a steady space to reflect, process, and move forward over time.

Support can be ongoing or short-term — whatever feels right for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can counselling help?

Counselling offers a space to slow things down and make sense of what’s going on for you.
It’s a place to talk openly, feel heard, and begin to understand your thoughts, emotions, and experiences more clearly.

Over time, it can help you:

  • feel more grounded and less overwhelmed
  • understand patterns and responses
  • build trust in yourself
  • process difficult emotions
  • find ways to move forward that feel right for you

There’s no pressure to have everything figured out — we take it one step at a time.

What can I expect from the first appointment?

The first session is a chance to get to know each other.
We’ll talk about what’s been going on for you, what’s brought you here, and what you’re hoping for.

There’s no pressure to share everything straight away.
You can go at your own pace, and we’ll focus on what feels most important to you.

You’re welcome to ask questions, get a feel for the space, and decide if it feels like the right fit.

What hours are you available?

Appointments are available during the week, with some evening times offered to support different schedules.

As sessions are held online, there is flexibility in finding a time that works for you.

Current availability can be viewed through the booking system.

What training and experience do the counsellors have?

Hannah holds a Bachelor of Applied Counselling and is a member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC).

Her approach is person-centred and trauma-informed, supporting people through grief, loss, life transitions, and a range of personal challenges.

She has experience working with both adults and young people, and brings a calm, grounded, and compassionate presence to her work.

Hannah is committed to ongoing training, professional development, and regular supervision to ensure safe, ethical, and up-to-date practice.

How many sessions will I need?

This is different for everyone.
Some people come for a few sessions to work through something specific, while others find ongoing support helpful over a longer period of time.

We’ll check in regularly to make sure the pace and frequency feel right for you.

There’s no set number — we work in a way that supports your needs.

How much does a session cost?

Individual counselling sessions are $100 per session.
Couples counselling sessions are $150 per session.

Sessions are 50–60 minutes.

What if I cannot afford to pay the full fee?

If cost feels like a barrier, you’re welcome to get in touch.
We can have a conversation about what might be possible.

Support may also be available through WINZ.

All presence, no pressure.

Book your first online counselling session for $100, and we’ll go from there.
