Five gentle ways to care for yourself when grief feels overwhelming.

When grief feels overwhelming, even the smallest things can feel hard.
Caring for yourself during these times doesn’t have to be big or perfect — gentle is enough.

You might find it helpful to come back to the present moment, even briefly. Noticing your breath, your surroundings, or something you can touch can help create a small sense of steadiness when everything feels too much.

It can also help to lower expectations. You don’t have to do everything or be everything right now. Focusing on what feels manageable is enough.

Staying connected, even in small ways, can make a difference. You don’t have to explain everything you’re feeling — sometimes just being around someone, or sending a message, can help you feel a little less alone.

Grief often comes in waves, and allowing emotions to move rather than holding them in can be important. Whether that looks like tears, writing things down, or simply sitting with how you feel — it’s all part of the process.

Most of all, being kind to yourself matters. Grief can be exhausting, and there’s no right way to move through it. Rest when you need to, and speak to yourself with the same care you would offer someone else.

There’s no set path through grief. Just take it one moment at a time, and be gentle with yourself along the way.

All presence, no pressure.
